The short answer: any time of year. The longer answer: some times are smarter than others — and if you leave it too late, you may find yourself without a available team when you need one most.
The good news: Spain's climate means year-round trimming
Unlike northern Europe where palm care is restricted to specific seasons, the Costa del Sol's mild winters mean there is no bad time to trim a palm. Palms do not go dormant here the way they do in colder climates, and there is no frost risk that would make post-trim recovery difficult.
This means you can book palm trimming in January just as easily as in July — and in many ways, the quieter months are the better choice.
Why summer is the busiest season — and why that's a problem for you
Every year, as temperatures rise and outdoor living begins in earnest, communities of owners and private homeowners across the Costa del Sol notice the same thing at the same time: the palms are dropping their flower clusters, fruit bunches and fibrous debris directly into pools, onto terraces and across lawns.
Beyond the mess, there's a real practical risk. Palm debris — particularly the long flower clusters — can block pool filters and damage pumps if left to accumulate. Community pools are especially vulnerable, and the cost of a damaged filtration system far exceeds the cost of a timely trim.
The result is that every comunidad, every property manager and every villa owner tries to book palm trimming at roughly the same moment. Teams fill up fast. In peak summer, availability can stretch weeks out — and some clients simply don't get seen until the problem has already caused damage.
The smart move: book before the rush
If your palms are trimmed in late winter or early spring — February, March, April — you get ahead of the queue, your team has more flexibility on scheduling, and your palms are clean and managed before the outdoor season begins.
Your pool stays clear. Your terrace stays tidy. And you are not competing with every other community on the Costa del Sol for the same two weeks of availability.
If your palm needs to come down rather than trimmed, our palm tree removal service covers the full process across the Costa del Sol.
When each season makes sense
Autumn and winter (October–February) — ideal for maintenance trimming. Quieter period, more flexible scheduling, same quality result. Good time to address palms that were missed or neglected during the busy season.
Spring (March–May) — the smartest time to book ahead of summer. Palms are trimmed before the flower and fruit clusters develop fully, reducing the debris that ends up in pools and on terraces.
Summer (June–September) — peak demand, limited availability. If you haven't booked by June, you may be waiting. Emergency or urgent jobs can usually be accommodated, but scheduled maintenance becomes harder to fit in.
One thing that should never wait: a palm that looks unhealthy
Regardless of season, if a palm is showing signs of red palm weevil, dropping large fronds unexpectedly, or showing structural instability, don't wait for a convenient time. Contact us straight away — early intervention gives the best outcome, and a palm in poor condition can pose a safety risk to people and property.
